Despite the fluctuation in prices of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies out there, momentum hasn't stopped for the creation of new cryptocurrencies with weird themes and names. It isn't too difficult to understand how initial public offerings (IPOs) happen for equities, but ICOs (initial coin offerings) are an entirely new animal that the market is still trying to understand.
While I'm far from qualified to talk about how these are created and whether or not they are a good investment, I have found an excellent presentation that helps illustrate the potential risks and pitfalls of investing in new, untested cryptocurrencies.
Please watch the video below and remember that you're likely not missing out on much -- there are plenty of stronger investments out there where the risks are much more well-known. All investments have risks; please understand what you're getting yourself into.
